Gillian Banks of the Gillian Banks Theatre School in Rotherham was sent an invitation to the Queen's Garden Party following years of support for local charities. Her invitation in July for Gillian and her husband Martyn was a great surprise and honour from the Lord Lieutenant of South Yorkshire for services to charities. The Theatre School performs on a regular basis for numerous local charities on small and large scales.
New for 2011 is Zumba Fitness with instructor Dean J Ellis, come Join the Party!
We have classes on Thursday evening at 7:30pm and for the kids on Saturdays at 12:30pm.
The Spotlight Theatre Company now offers Themed Parties. Choose from 70's Pop, Musicals (Classic and Modern), Western Line Dancing, Circus, Wild West and Many More. On the evening of 22 January 2011 a successful Burns Night with Chairman Doug Melloy was held at the Magna - Red Hall to celebrate this great Scottsih Tradition - a good night had by all.

Sunday 18th July 2010 - We held our presentation evening at the Maltby Miners Welfare Club, awarding certificates and trophies to students for their recent Dance, Drama and Music exams. Well done.
Monday 7th December 2010 saw our students perform a Music, Competition Work, Street Dance and Pop Vocal showcase at the Maltby Miners Welfare.
On the 6th December 2009 students took a range of exams across a range of dance disciplines.
SQ Presents are now our "in house" agent promoting the Spotlight Theatre Dancers, 2 Chique and the Spotlight Dreams - another example of how the school prepares acts ready for professional work.
During October the following students took part in competitions in Doncaster with some achieving 1st, 2nd and 3rd places:
Chelsea Wheatley - Ballet Solo, National, Character. Darcie Lacey - Wonder Woman, Darcie with Kirsty Redshaw - African Duet. Cierra Greensil - Irish, Tap, Song & Dance, Ballet, Modern. Jessica Kenedy - Disco. The next competitions will be in spring 2010 dates TBA, contact school reception for more information or to register your interest.
The school's students have achieved 100% pass rates for all dance and music / singing exams in 2008.
There are 3 more sessions of exams planned for 2009 in music / singing and 4 sessions in dance as well as drama exams.
The Friends of Gillian Banks - the fund raising arm of the School has achieved Charitable status for 2009 which means fund raising and support for activities will be developed further as the group expands.
Megan Louch and Laura Banks have been nominated for theatre dance awards through the IDTA examinations for Jazz Dance and will attend a finalists competition in MAnchester in March. They have been chosen out of thousands of dancers to compete in the last 400.
A new scholarship has been awarded to the School which helps support students develop their talents further by giving financial support to them. The ' Silent Angels ' awards will be presented twice a year by our sponsors Nick and Marie Cragg from Stafforce Recruitment in memory of their mothers.
During half term in February the School will be employing professional artisites to come into the school to provide workshops in dance choreography - trapeze / aerial work and healthy living including fitness , diet and nutrition for the healthy performer.
The Theatre School was one of the finalists for the Rotherham Business Awards at Magna in november and received the runner up award for working with the community
Various dance competitions were undertaken recently with Lucy Carter winning 3rd place for song and dance and Kirsty Redshaw winning 3rd place for song and dance. Aimee Barber won 1st place at Retford Festival in ballet , modern and national. Megan Louch won at the CArcroft Festival 1st place in ballet , modern , national , character and she won the highest mark of the overall festival and the most promising future award. Megan Louch and Laura Banks won the senior song and dance duets with 1st place at the Doncaster Festival.
Well done to Ciera Greensil, Ryan Kennedy, Michelle Myers and Lucy Carter who performed in the concert at Ponds Forge, Sheffield in October. Michelle and Lucy received trophies for gaining the highest London College of Music singing exams (summer 2007) in South Yorkshire.
On Sunday 18th November 2007 our Showgirls opened both acts of the Young Performers Gala at the Shaftesbury Theatre (home of Hairspray starring Michael Ball) in London's West End. They appeared as guests to give the performance a professional look and to give the younger participants something to aspire to. Thank you to Rotherham Titans for the loan of their mini-bus.
Congratulations to Miss Diane Gooder for completing a fire walk at Rotherham Rugby Club helping to raise funds for the Phase Worldwide charity.
We will soon be offering professional singing exams for pop vocals.
Lisa Tetley has taken over the competition work covering all aspects of song and dance, including classical ballet and national.
Many thanks to Bramall Construction who have worked with the school and a structural engineer to put into place the necessary apparatus for us to offer a range of circus skills lessons.
